Blood banks have received an overwhelming response in the wake of the tragedy on Bondi Beach, breaking two new national records.
In just the first 24 hours after the Bondi massacre, a whopping 50,000 appointments were booked and a total of 7810 donations of blood, plasma and platelets were made from across the nation, with 1300 of those coming from first time donors.
Aussies have continued to step up for their fellow compatriots.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has visited our centres or made an appointment to donate in the past few days and in the weeks ahead,” a Lifeblood spokesperson said.

“The need for more blood and plasma donors is ongoing. In the event of a serious trauma event or emergency, up to 100 donations may be needed to save just one life,” a Lifeblood spokesperson said.

APIn statistics obtained by NewsWire, Lifeblood revealed what states were most generous in the 72 hours after the tragedy.
NSW topped the rankings with a staggering 7897 donations, with Victoria closely behind at 6918 and Queensland in third at 4790.
Nearly 25,000 first-time donors put their best arm forward and made an appointment.
