Qualities I Am Looking For in a Partner

1 year ago 285

16 years ago while living in NYC, after a breakup in June and seeing a few things about the power of manifestation, I mentally made a checklist of what I was looking for in a partner. I remember the list like it was yesterday and some things I listed seemed silly, a couple of them practical but I am here to tell you, that in October of that same year I met a man, who checked all of my list requirements and we have been married for 8 years and we have two kids.

Here is where my priorities were in 2008:
1) No roommates – I lived in NYC so someone without roommates would have been such a dream.

And dear reader, the universe delivered this guy who did not in live in Manhattan or Brooklyn but was renting a house in Secaucus NJ and commuting to Hoboken for work. No biggie, I was good with that.

2) He must have own washer and dryer – again, I had to do laundry in the Laundromat on Thompson street in Soho so the dream of someone with a washer and dryer was real!

And that washer and that dryer (that I wished he had) are still in our house, kind of mental!

3) Sense of humour – I loved the dialogue between Carrie Bradshaw and Big in SATC so I really wanted someone with the ping-pong style, back and forth banter.

And dear reader – I got myself an Englishman with a typical self deprecating humour, sarcastic oneliners and a generally grumpy disposition/look but sensitive inside.

4) Perky bum – yes, that was on my list because mine is flat and I specifically remember thinking I wanted my children to have a perky bum (just a bit of curve, not massive).

AND, he has a lovely perky bum and so do out kids, their have his figure which is fanatic.

What I didn’t say/ask and thought “that’s a given” was that he really wanted to have a family and had great relationship with his own parents and siblings. We did get over “not wanting kids” bit and have two fantastic children and he loves them but it took a while and his family relations are lukewarm as opposed to my super close and connected immediate family and extended family.

Moral of the story – manifestation works, just be very specific about what you want and don’t want and don’t leave anything to chance because universe will pick for you :)
