Victoria’s Secret, the American lingerie giant, proclaimed that its yearly fashion show, which was ceased after 2018 due to waning sales and falling viewership, will make a comeback this fall, starring high-profile models once again dignifying its catwalk.
In an Instagram video, the company shared, “the runway show will be back by this fall,” without indicating the date, location, or the models who would participate.
“We’ve paid attention to your feedback,” the group declared in its post. “The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is BACK and will display who we are today, along with all you love — the glamour, wings, runway, musical entertainment, and more.”
In November 2019, the company declared the annulment of the show, which had faced disapproval for being obsolete and sexist, especially in the light of the #MeToo movement.
First created in 1995, the runway show had once acquired millions of viewers globally, but its viewership gradually declined over the years. In 2014, it engrossed nine million American viewers, but by 2018, the number had fallen to just three million.
Famous models like Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum, and Adriana Lima had taken part in the event, uplifting its status in the world of high fashion. Furthermore, artists like Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Rihanna, and Bruno Mars performed at the show.
Formerly owned by L Brands, the company had undergone a spinoff and became Victoria’s Secret & Co, which comprises the lingerie label, the Pink. The brand targeted young women, and had a cosmetics and accessories segment known as Victoria’s Secret Beauty.
The company reported a marginal decrease in sales in 2023, totaling US $ 6.12 billion, and a net income of US $ 181 million in comparison to US $ 173 million last year. As of the year-end, the group runs over 1,300 stores globally.
